Welcome back to regularly scheduled content here at Assume the Best. Normally on Tuesdays we look at a photo and try to assume the best about it’s backstory. Today, we are going to assume the best about 2011.

I think it’ll be the best year ever, personally. We are going to trust that God is in control, that the good news is actually true, and that He’s got us on theis crazy adventure of raising support for a really good reason.
I don’t say it enough, but one of my desires for this site is that it would be a refuge, a safe place to talk about frustrations, to talk about triumphs, and to talk about the real life, nitty gritty stuff that happens in a support raiser’s life.
My aim is to make it funny most of the time, because humor is a great way to smuggle truth into a situation. And the truth is that raising support is not easy, no matter where you are.
But “easy” and “worth it” often don’t stay in the same area code.
I’ve been told that I am not going to be able to pull this off, and write a blog that is readable by both support-raisers and their donors in a way that doesn’t come off as offensive to one or the other. And perhaps that’s true. The jury is still in the deliberation room.
My goal is just to be a real guy, sharing stories of fundraising that make you smile, make you think, and ultimately make you give to missions. And I’ll keep writing as long as you keep reading!
Here’s to 2011! May our “actual” far outpace our “normal.”

I don’t raise support, but I support a number of missionaries and ministries as well as our tithe, and I love this site. It helps me realize when I am talking to leaders of ministries and such how difficult the dynamic is for them to tell me that they are in need. I have found myself being much more forthright about letting them know that it is not offensive for them to make their needs known to me, and that I want to know about it. It also makes it easier for me to let them know that I can support them, or I can’t because of budget concerns. It is a little more awkward if I actually don’t quite agree with their demeanor or approach and would prefer not to support them for those reasons.
However, I love this blog, I follow it regularly, and I am not raising support. The fact that it is often funny makes me return.
