Whats the Best Missions Book I can Read?

February 18, 2011

Normally Fridays are for Shout-outs. But not this Friday. I’ll be back next week with some more folks to shout-out. But this week, I’ve got a question.

I’m looking for the best book written on missions and missiology. Comment below. Amazon link would be appreciated. I am looking to read up on missions in general, and missions fund raising in particular.

So, if you could only suggest one, which book would it be, in the genre of missions literature, and why?

“Let the Nations Be Glad” by Piper.

Why? The first sentence.

That’s one that I read, I think, but it’s been so long that I am a totally different human since then. Need to pick it up again.

Definitely Let the Nations Be Glad.

I also have to read “Planting Churches Cross-Culturally” as a missions assignment, but I haven’t started yet.

Funding Your Ministry is a great one on fundraising in particular.

I forgot to add why. It has some great humor, but it is also highly recommended. It not only has concepts, but also forms to complete on your own to actually work at it.

Two missiology books I’d recommend – more for background than instruction on practical application – The Next Christendom: The Coming of Global Christianity by Philip Jenkins; and Christian Mission: How Christianity Became a World Religion by Dana Robert.

Cross-Cultural Conflict: Building Relationships for Effective Ministry by Duane Elmer

Sorry, I don’t have the first clue on how to put in a link. And not enough spare neurons to figure it out : )

Luckily, I have both the geek street cred, and 1.5 spare neurons this morning. Thanks for the comment!

Unveiled at Last (http://www.amazon.com/Unveiled-at-Last-Bob-Sjogren/dp/0927545373) is great, but Let the Nations Be Glad is probably my favorite.

Revolution in World Missions has been highly recommended to me. It’s free here: http://www.gfa.org/offer/freebook/ (I’m ordering one myself.)

I agree about “Funding Your Ministry”, and I’d also add “GloboChrist: The Great Commission Takes a Postmodern Turn” http://www.amazon.com/GloboChrist-Commission-Postmodern-Church-Culture/dp/080103261X
